Srinagar: About 12 people, including five militants and two security men were killed as Army troops foiled an attempt by Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants to storm the battalion headquarters of Rashtriya Rifles at Sopore in North Kashmir, official sources said.

Two militants of LeT outfit were killed in over two-hour gunbattle when they tried to sneak into the battalion headquarters, the spokesman said.

He said that the ultras, one of whom identified as Abdul Hyder Shaheen of Sargoda area of Pakistan, were confronted by sentry at the main gate leading to an encounter killing both.

Two AK assault rifles, eight magazines and some ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, the spokesman said.

Security forces foiled an attempt exfiltration bid by a group of four boys in Bandipora area of North Kashmir on November 3 night, he said.

The boys identified as Mohammad Salman, Ishfaq Ahmad, Dil Nawaz and Mohammad Yousuf (all residents of Kursoo area of Srinagar) were apprehended by the security forces while they were in the process of crossing the border for arms training, the spokesman said.

In another incident, militants lobbed a grenade inside a police vehicle at Magam on Srinagar-Gulmarg road in Baramulla district on November 4 injuring two policemen.

The spokesman said that three militants were shot dead by the security forces in an encounter at Shalabhutoo in Kupwara district on November 3 night.

A security jawan was killed in an encounter with security forces at Arampora in Baramulla on November 3 night, he said.

He said that militants also opened fire on a search party in Kinara-Rajouri in Poonch district killing a jawan and wounding two others.

Militants shot dead two persons, in Behali and Thachi villages and wounded another at Chakkan in Doda district on November 3 night, he said.

Another person identified was abducted and later beheaded by militants in Handwara area of Kupwara district on November 3 night, the spokesman said.

Body of one, Fateh Mohammad was recovered by police from hill Dalwa forest in Udhampur district on November 3 night, the spokesman said, adding that he is believed to have been killed by militants.

Police also picked up body of an unidentified person from Dulari in Rajouri district on November 4.

Militants also shot at and wounded a civilian at Gagran in Shopian area of Pulwama district on November 3 night, the spokesman said.

He said that militants opened fire on a security camp in Pulwama district and triggered a blast at Watlab near Sopore in Baramulla district on November 3 night but no one was injured in the attacks.

Meanwhile, 14 people were injured in a bomb explosion in Rajouri town of Jammu division on November 4 evening, police sources said.

The blast took place at Sharan hotel in the town around 18:30 hours (IST) injuring 14 people in the vicinity, the sources said.

All the injured have been rushed to the district hospital, Rajouri.

Police and para-military forces have rushed to the site and started investigation.
