Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee arrived in Phnom Penh on November 4
on a three-day visit to Cambodia to attend the first-ever India-Association of South
East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, highlighting threats posed by terrorism and
calling for greater trade and economic co-operation with India.
Vajpayee is expected to discuss with leaders of the 10-members ASEAN on November 5
prospects of a free trade area to further strengthen relations with the grouping
besides an ASEAN Integration Initiative.
During his three-day stay in Phnom Penh, he is expected to meet Chinese and Japanese
Premiers Zhu Rongji and Junichiro Koizumi who would also be attending the day-long
Summit as dialogue partners.
The Prime Minister will lay stress on terrorism in all its aspects in the backdrop
of the recent terrorist attack in Bali, official sources said.
Vajpayee, who has paid a bilateral visit to Cambodia in April this year, is
accompanied External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha and National Security Adviser
Brajesh Mishra and top officials.
The Prime Minister would attend a dinner on November 4 night hosted by King Norodom
Sihanouk, which would be joined by all heads of state or government taking part in
the Summit. He would hold bilateral talks with Cambodian Premier Hun Sen on November
6.
