Patna: One person was killed and seven were injured when the Amritsar-Barauni Jan
Seva Express was hit by the Gwalior-Barauni Express from behind near Chapra early on
November 5, police said.
The accident occurred between Kopasamhauta and Tekniwas stations on the Chapra-Siwan
section.
Saran superintendent of police Kundan Krishna said that the engine of the Gwalior-
Barauni Express smashed into the pantry van of the stationary Jan Seva Express.
Krishna said one person was killed on the spot. The injured were shifted to
government hospital at Chapra, where the condition of three of them was stated to be
serious.
It was not immediately known why the Jan Seva Express stopped midway between the two
stations, but Railway officials suspected that anti-social elements might have cut
the hose-pipe of the train.
Relief vans from Sonepur and Gorakhpur have reached the spot and rescue operations
are on.
Train services were badly affected on vital Hajipur-Chapra-Varanasi section of East-
Central and North-Eastern Railway since morning.
Several trains were stranded at Siwan and Hajipur stations and routes of several
others diverted.
