Vadodara: The Centre has assured additional paramilitary forces for the smooth
conduct of the December 12 Assembly polls in Gujarat, according to Minister of state
for Home Gordhan Zadaphiya.
The additional chief secretary to the Home Department of the state government had
discussed the issue with the Election Commission during his visit to New Delhi
recently, Zadaphiya said.
The state chief secretary had also met the Central officials in Delhi in this
regard, he said.
Meanwhile, a statewide alert has been sounded in the state following the incident in
New Delhi on November 3 in which two terrorists were shot dead in an encounter with
police, the Minister said.
"I have held a meeting with the director general of police V K Chakravarty and
instructed all police commissioners and district superintendents of police to take
necessary steps to maintain law and order," he said.
Police patrolling has been intensified at places of public gatherings and meeting
venues, he said adding, constant police vigil is being maintained in wake of the
recent terrorist attack at Akshardham temple.
