Wednesday, November 6 2002 15:40 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party on November 6 announced the names of its general secretary Amar Singh, former Member of Parliament (MP) Uday Pratap Singh, Maharashtra unit chief Abu Asim Azmi and journalist Sahid Siddique as party candidates for the November 18 Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.

The names of party candidates were announced by SP legislature group leader in the state Assembly Azam Khan at a press conference here.

The party, which has a strength of 142 in the 403-member House, can ensure win for at least three of its candidates as each needs 37 votes to get through.

Requiring 148 votes for the victory of all four candidates, the SP could manage the remaining from its allies. Its ally Rashtriya Kranti Party has four members in the House.
