Bangalore: Karnataka Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs D B Chandregowda on
November 6 hinted that the state might file objections to the bail applications of
Tamil activist Kolathur Mani, whom forest bandit Veerappan has been insisting as an
emissary to negotiate the release of former minister H Nagappa.
The bail application of Mani is coming up for hearing before the state High Court on
November 7.
Gowda, speaking to reporters, said, "The government is there to prosecute. It will
do its job."
Queried whether the state would oppose Mani's bail application, he said it depended
on the prayers made in the application and was for the public prosecutor to
decide.
In the fourth audio-cassette sent by Veerappan, he has demanded that the government
send Mani or Minister for Food Processing Raju Gowda as emissaries.
However, the government has turned the bandit's demand for sending Raju Gowda as
emissary, saying it would not depute any minister or Legislator as
negotiators.
