Bangkok: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on November 8 said that every country
in the 10-member ASEAN has agreed to "jointly act" with India in fighting terrorism.
"We condemned the recent manifestations of terrorism in South East Asia. India and
ASEAN have agreed to co-operate through information exchange and joint action in
combating terrorism," Vajpayee told reporters while returning from Cambodia and Laos
after attending the first-ever Indo-ASEAN summit in Pnom Phen.
Observing that the resolve of ASEAN members against terrorism had been further
strengthened after the Bali terrorist attack and developments in Philippines,
Vajpayee said, "Terrorism is not a distant phenomenon for South East Asian
countries. It is knocking at their doors and no one will know when there will be an
attack."
The Prime Minister, however, said that there was no panic situation in Indonesia or
any other ASEAN state at present because of terrorist activities.
