New Delhi: Justice Gopal Ballav Pattanaik took over as the new Chief Justice of
India (CJI) after President A P J Abdul Kalam administered oath of office to him at
an impressive ceremony at Ashoka Hall in the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Justice Pattanaik, who will have a short tenure of one-and-a-half months, took oath
in the name of God to become the 32nd CJI.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Law Minister Jana
Krishnamurthy and other Cabinet Ministers.
The Supreme Court and High Court Judges, former Chief Justices of India, Solicitor
General Kirit Raval and other leading advocates also attended the brief ceremony.
