Mumbai: Film actor Salman Khan, charged with killing one person and injuring four in
a hit and run case, urged the police to release his passport as he had to go to
Malaysia for a film shooting from November 21 to December 10.
Salman has filed an application in this regard with the investigating officer, his
lawyer H S Anand said.
Granting bail to Salman, a sessions court had ordered the actor to deposit his
passport with police and take back whenever he wanted to go abroad in connection
with professional work. Accordingly, Salman has pleaded for release of passport and
it was for the police to give it back to him, his lawyer said.
In a related development, a magistrate will hear on November 16 Salman's plea for
return of Toyota Land Cruiser involved in the mishap. According to the actor, the
vehicle had not been transferred in his name.
Police objected to Salman's plea for return of the vehicle, saying it did not belong
to him but to Abdul Rahman.
Salman's lawyer had informed the court that Abdul Rahman may appear on November 16.
On September 28, the actor allegedly rammed his vehicle into a bakery in suburban
Bandra killing one person and injuring four. Police alleged that he was under the
influence of liquor but the actor denied the allegation.
He was arrested on the same day and released on bail.
Later he was re-arrested under a more serious offence, culpable homicide not
amounting to murder. The court released him on bail on October 24.
