Chennai: Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami said the Centre would extend all help to the new Jammu and Kashmir government to crush terrorist activities in the state.

The new government had unilaterally announced its decision for a ceasefire and release of political prisoners in the month of Ramadan. However, Centre would be willing to extend its co-operation in crushing terrorism in the state, he told reporters on arrival at the airport to take part in a function.

Refusing to comment on developments in Uttar Pradesh vis-a-vis the suspension of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) member of legislative assembly (MLA) for raising the banner of revolt, he said the question should be addressed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

On the Ansal Plaza incident in Delhi, he said the National Human Rights Commission had made a comment on the basis of a complaint made by an individual, which had been blown out of proportion by some newspapers.

On recurring violence in Gujarat, he said such incidents on the eve of elections were but natural and added that the Election Commission would monitor them.

The minister said the Centre would be only too willing to extend all co-operation in securing the release of former Karnataka minister H Nagappa from the clutches of forest brigand Veerappan. He, however, hastened to add that law and order problem was a subject to be dealt with by state governments.
