Jammu: Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, state Congress chief Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Union Minister Saifuddin Soz and Kisan leader Trilok Singh are poised to be elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir as their nominations were found valid after scrutiny on November 9.

As there was no second contestant for the four RS seats, they are certain to be elected unopposed after withdrawal of nominations on November 10.

The nominations of Abdullah (National Conference), Azad and Soz (both Congress) and Singh (People's Democratic Party) were found valid by the returning officer, official sources said.

Abdullah's candidature is backed by the ruling coalition that includes PDP, Congress, Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPM) and Panthers Party.

Four seats to the Upper House from the state fell vacant after the expiry of the term of Azad, Mirza Abdul Rasheed, Sharif-din-Shariq and Kushak Thiksey (all of National Conference).
