Mount Abu: Asserting that her party was not in the game of dislodging the Bahujan
Samajwadi Party-Bharatiya Janata Party (BSP-BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh,
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on November 9 said that the party's strategy would
be decided once the government falls on its own.
"We have said that we are not in the game of breaking governments. Situation is
fluid in UP. Let us see if the BSP-BJP government falls on its own. Then we shall
take a decision," Gandhi told reporters at the end of the two-day conclave of party
Chief Ministers.
She said that her party had approached the state Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri to
convene a special session of the Assembly "so that a clearer picture could emerge".
Asked if the party would support Samajwadi Party to replace BSP-BJP coalition in the
state, she said, "As I have said about Gujarat, we are open to working with like-
minded secular forces to defeat communal forces."
To a question as to how she would come to power without a strong presence in major
states, she admitted that the party organisation in states like Bihar and Uttar
Pradesh were weak.
However, she said that the matter would be discussed at the All India Congress
Committee (AICC) level and this was not the right time.
