Ex-SGPC chief issued arrest warrant for power theft
Sunday, November 10 2002 17:51 Hrs (IST)

Kapurthala: A city court on November 11 issued arrest warrant against former president of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) and sitting Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bibi Jagir Kaur in a power theft case.

The police presented the case before the court of chief judicial magistrate S S Dhaliwal, who issued arrest warrant against Bibi.

When contacted, R N Dhoke, district police chief said, "We have received the arrest warrant and now would raid possible hide-outs of the Bibi, who was missing in view of ensuing SGPC election."

Meanwhile, director general of police (DGP) M S Bhullar had on November 9 ruled out the immediate arrest of Bibi.

Police had registered a case under various Sections of Indian Electricity Act and of the Indian penal code (IPC) against Jagir Kaur on November 8 for allegedly "stealing power" of state electricity board bypassing the electricity metre at her dera at village Bagowal.

Bibi's arrest is crucial for Shiromani Akali Dal in view of elections for SGPC office bearers scheduled for November 12.
