Sunday, November 10 2002 19:56 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Taking a "serious note" of reports of alleged involvement of three high functionaries of the state judiciary in a sex scandal in a Mysore resort, Karnataka High Court is conducting an enquiry into the alleged incident.

According to the Court's Registrar General, A C Kabbin, the Chief Justice of the High Court, Justice N K Jain, has taken serious note of newspaper reports alleging an incident in a resort at Mysore involving persons from legal fraternity.

"The question whether any such incident took place as reported is under verification," Kabbin said in a statement but added that until now, except rumours, no material has come to light to substantiate the alleged incident.

Having regard to the gravity of the allegations, the Chief Justice desires that any person having first hand information or material may furnish the same to the registrar (vigilance), High Court of Karnataka, he said.

A report from Mysore said a team deputed by the Registrar General to investigate the reported incident, visited Mysore on November 9 and made its independent enquiries.

Mysore police commissioner C Chandrasekhar, speaking to reporters, denied reports regarding the alleged scandal, saying such an incident has not come to police notice.

Home Minister M Mallikarjun Kharge had said that the state government would seek information from officials about the scandal.

The Bangalore Advocates' Association has sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged incident which, it described as "very serious and shocking".
