Dakor: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on November 11 spoke of "divine
indications" of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging victorious in the ensuing
Assembly elections.
Addressing a public gathering in this temple town, while kicking off the ninth leg
of his "Gujarat gaurav yatra", Modi wondered, "Is it not a coincidence that the BJP
kicked off its election campaign on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel and the results of the polls are going to be declared on December
15, which is Patel's death anniversary?"
"The BJP is firmly resolved to quell terrorism after the Akshardham incident and is
it not coincidental that polling day December 12 is also the birthday of head of
Swaminarayan sect Pramukh Swami Maharaj?" Modi asked people terming it as "another
divine indication".
Modi also sought to play with numbers as he said Gujarat Assembly has 182 seats and
campaign was kicked off on 128th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel asking, "Did you
people see that all three numbers 1,2 and 8?"
"The wave is definitely changing in favour of BJP as there is surely something in
the air these days," Modi said referring to these "coincidences".
Further, in a satirical attack on the rival camp for opposing the "yatra", Modi
advised the Congress to "take tuitions" from children to understand what "Gujarat's
gaurav" meant.
