Cyclonic storm may hit coastal Orissa, Bengal
Tuesday, November 12 2002 11:19 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: A cyclonic storm, concentrated at 320 km South West off Kolkata, is moving North-North East of the Bay of Bengal and is likely to cross coastal Orissa and West Bengal-Bangladesh border on November 12 afternoon.

Regional meteorological office said the cyclonic storm, formed out of the deep depression lying about 700 km off Orissa-WB coast on November 11 night, has further intensified and was approaching towards the coastline.

As a result of this, the entire coastal area of Orissa and West Bengal would be lashed by a gale accompanied by heavy to very heavy rain, the met office said.

The storm was only 50 km East-South East off Paradip coast of Orissa.

Meanwhile, Kolkata and its neighbourhood continued to experience rain since November 11 night causing water logging in the low lying areas.

Weather office recorded two cm rainfall in both Alipur and Dumdum till 10:00 hours (IST).
