Ahmedabad: Tension prevailed at Dasad village in Unjha taluk of Mehsana district in
Gujarat after November 11 night's communal trouble wherein two people were killed
and over 20 injured, police said.
The two deceased include one from each community, superintendent of police (SP)
Mehsana A K Sharma said.
Following a confusion after a rabid dog ran around Gogh Maharaj temple where
revellers were rejoicing the concluding session of a three-day local festival,
people from both communities pelted stones on each other and there were gunshots
too, prompting the police to open 10 rounds of fire, lob 17 teargas shells and 12
gas grenades to quell the mob, Sharma said.
The situation is now tense but under control, he added.
Meanwhile, police sources in Gandhinagar said at least 16 people from majority
community had been taken to Unjha health centre while six from minority community
are undergoing treatment in Mehsana hospital.
Earlier in the day, coinciding with the first day visit of the Election Commission,
three people were killed in separate incidents in Mahudha village under Kheda
district in Central Gujarat while in Ahmedabad, a crude bomb explosion in sensitive
Dani Limda left a scrap shop owner dead and
another person injured. The EC team is visiting Rajkot on November 12.
