Satyajit Ray's film fest begins in Russia
Tuesday, November 12 2002 19:43 Hrs (IST)

Moscow: A weeklong retrospective of legendary Indian film director Satyajit Ray's masterpieces opened in Moscow on November 12 with the screening of his "Jalsaghar" filmed in 1958.

Moscovites would also be able to view the Indian maestro's Berlin film festival award-winner "Charulata", and other great works - "Aranyer Din Ratri", "Shatranj Ke Khiladi", "Heerak Rajar Deshe" and "Ghare-Baire" at the festival organised at the prestigious Charlie Chaplain hall of the Moscow Cinema Museum.

This is the first major retrospective of Ray's films in Russia since the USSR fragmentation in 1991 and is seen as part of the cultural build-up ahead of President Vladimir Putin's India visit in December.
