Wednesday, November 13 2002 20:23 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Giving a new dimension to their bilateral ties, India and Croatia on November 13 signed accords on stepping up co-operation in agriculture and export credit and guarantees and agreed to be partners in the war against terrorism.

The accords were signed in the presence of visiting Croatian President Stejpan Mesic and Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee after the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on the entire gamut of bilateral issues besides exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Mesic, who is on a five-day state visit, shared India's concerns on terrorism and underscored the need for the international community to sustain the intensity of its campaign against the scourge.

Vajpayee said the two countries were partners in the international coalition fighting terrorism.

Mesic, who is accompanied by several ministers and 20 prominent Croatian businessmen, spoke of the immense potential the two countries had in enhancing economic co-operation in diversified fields.

President A P J Abdul Kalam and Vajpayee, who received the Croatian leader, recalled the traditional ties between the two countries dating back to the time when Croatia was part of Yugoslavia.

Kalam said the two countries have always had cordial relations and this visit would further strengthen those ties.
