Bangalore: Barely two days before for the Supreme Court is to hear the contempt of court petitions filed by Tamil Nadu on Cauvery issue, Karnataka on November 13 maintained that it has complied with the Court's order on "ensuring water" at Mettur reservoir.

Karnataka Water Resources Minister, H K Patil told reporters in Bangalore that from October 28 till date, the state has "ensured" 20.03 TMC of water at Mettur in Tamil Nadu.

During this November, he said, water flows from the state into Tamil Nadu was 14.9 TMC ft as against the 16 TMC ft required to be released in accordance with the Cauvery Disputes Tribunal's interim order.

Patil said the current outflows from the Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir was about 3800 CUSECS daily.

He said Karnataka would submit to the Supreme Court on November 15 details regarding the quantity of water it ensured to Tamil Nadu.

The apex court on November 1, while deferring the hearing on contempt of court petitions to November 15 directed Karnataka to ensure 9,000 CUSECS of water till November 6 and about 6,000 cusecs upto November 15 as per the interim order of the tribunal.

He said the data collected by Karnataka on the water inflows into Mettur was from Tamil Nadu and not based on the flows recorded at Biligundlu, where the Central Water Commission has a guaging station.

He said the state had information that Tamil Nadu has shut down the reservoir gates of Mettur following copious rains in that state, to drive home that Tamil Nadu was not hard pressed for water now.
