Chennai: Close on the heels of a hooch incident at Cuddalore a couple of days ago, in another such incident, one person died and a dozen others were affected, when they consumed illicit liquor in Ponpathi village in Gingee taluk of Villipuram district, on November 13 night, police said.

The affected persons were admitted to a local hospital in Gingee.

The condition of three was stated to be serious, police said adding that they had been shifted to JIPMER hospital in neighbouring Pondicherry.

Only on Nov 11, 14 persons, who had consumed illicit liquor in Oraiyur and Manam Thavazhantha Puthur villages in Panruti taluk of Cuddalore district were hospitalised.
