
New Delhi: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee tonight (Nov 14) convened a special
meeting to discuss the Naga peace process and the on-going talks with the major
insurgent group, National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah (NSCN).
Various issues relating to the initiation of a political process with NSCN (I-M)
leaders, Isak Chisi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah, figured at the meeting, informed
sources said.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Centre's emissary for the Naga talks K
Padmanabhaiah and senior officials attended the meeting.
Swu and Muivah, who have agreed to come to India to further the peace process, have
demanded that the ban on NSCN (I-M) be lifted and cases against them
withdrawn.
Padmanabhaiah has been meeting the NSCN (I-M) leadership in Bangkok and Amsterdam in
the past few years.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has also met Swu and Muivah in Bangkok to further
the political process with them.
In another development, Advani held a meeting with top Home Ministry officials on the
progress made in the peace talks with the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT), who have been
insisting on inclusion of some more villages in the proposed Bodoland Autonomous
Council territory.
