Imphal: Senior Congress leader Rishang Keishing on November 15 alleged that there
was no development activity in Manipur as the money meant for it was going to the
coffer of underground organisations which used it for purchasing arms.
If such things continued, the Centre would not sanction money for development
programmes in the state, Keishing told reporters.
He also said that the state had drawn huge overdraft.
Commenting on the merger of the Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) with Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) and claim of MSCP president Th Chaoba Singh that the Centre would
allocate more money for the state, Keishing said he did not think so.
Keishing, who was Chief Minister for 13 years, asserted that Congress would come to
power at the Centre after the next general elections.
To a question, he said no social organisation should put up blockade on the national
highways for pressing their demands because those roads were the lifelines of the
state.
