Friday, November 15 2002 13:16 Hrs (IST)

Dehra Dun: Unidentified gunmen shot dead two persons outside the house of Uttaranchal Health Minister in Dehra Dun late on November 14 night, police said on November 15.

The Minister, Tilak Raj Behad, was taking a stroll in front of his house in Yamuna colony when the shootout occurred, police said, adding that he was not hurt.

In what is believed to be a case of inter-gang rivalry, Rajendra Singh alias Bhura and Abhay Kumar alias Happy, were shot dead outside the Minister's house, police said.

A hunt was launched to nab the attackers and several persons were picked up for interrogation, superintendent of police (SP) G S Martolia said.

Police sources said that Behad was also questioned, as he was the only witness to the crime.

The incident came less than 24 hours of an attack on a police post in nearby Ballupur area in which two policemen were injured.

Director general of police (DGP) P D Raturi convened a high-level meeting to review security arrangements in the city following the shootout.
