New Delhi: The Centre is likely to convene a meeting of the Cauvery Monitoring
Committee (CMC) later this month in the context of a raging dispute between Tamil
Nadu and Karnataka on the sharing of waters.
Water Resources Ministry sources said a proposal to convene a meeting of CMC was
under consideration and it could be held by the end of this month.
However, there was no indication of a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA),
which is headed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, the sources said.
The CMC had met last in Chennai on October 2 after visiting the reservoirs in
Karnataka and Mettur in Tamil Nadu and claimed that the issues relating to the
sharing of waters had been "sorted" out.
The Supreme Court on November 16 asked Solicitor General Kirit N Raval to tell the
court on November 22 as to the date on which CRA meeting would be convened.
Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna has written six letters to the Prime Minister
seeking an early CRA meeting to discuss the water-sharing crisis.
