Sunday, November 17 2002 12:55 Hrs (IST)

Ahmedabad: Police made some preventive arrests, including that of wife and daughter of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international general secretary Pravin Togadia, at Somnath Temple in Bapu Nagar in Ahmedabad from where the VHP leaders were to perform puja before leaving for Godhra, police sources said.

The VHP activists objected to the police closing down the public address system at the puja site, police said adding that this resulted in an altercation between the activists and police.

Some of the activists, including Rashmi Togadia, Ami Togadia, wife and daughter of Pravin Togadia, Ranshod Barmod, Dhirubhai Patolia and Subhash Goswami, were detained as a precautionary measure, police added.
