New Delhi: The Automatic Currency Exchange Dispenser (ACED), which accepts over 15
foreign currencies, is likely be operative at the Indira Gandhi International Airport
from December, the Lok Sabha was informed on November 18.
Replying to a written question, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Shripad Yesso
Naik said ACED had been installed in the customs hall of the airport and was
undergoing testing.
He said the machine was likely to be made available for the use of passengers by
December 2002.
Highlighting the use of the machine, the minister said it was a quick and convenient
way for changing money and was compatible with accepting over 15 currencies in
different denominations and dispensing Indian Rupees.
The minister said that on satisfactory performance of the dispenser, the Airports
Authority of India would take steps to install similar facilities at the counters of
money exchanging agencies at airports.
Replying to a question whether the government proposed to construct two separate air
corridors for incoming and outgoing flights to prevent accidents, Naik said a large
number of air corridors with high density of air traffic had already been
bifurcated.
In Delhi, all air corridors had been bifurcated except the Northern sector towards
Shahranpur, where this was not feasible due to air constraints, he said.
