New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on November 18 night cleared 135 candidates
for the Gujarat Assembly elections after a two-hour meeting of its Central Election
Committee (CEC), but would announce them on November 19.
"The detailed list of the candidates will be released tomorrow," party general
secretary Arun Jaitley told reporters after the meeting at Prime Minister's
residence.
Asked from which constituency Chief Minister Narendra Modi would contest, Jaitley
declined to comment saying, "You will soon get to know all the details about
allocation of seats." Modi was also present at the meeting.
Jaitley said the candidates were finalised on the basis of recommendations made by
the state election committee of the party.
He said nominees for the remaining 47 seats would be finalised by the state election
panel after its members returned to Gandhinagar.
The CEC meeting, chaired by BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu, was attended by Deputy
Prime Minister L K Advani, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh, Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Pramod Mahajan, Textile Minister Kashiram Rana, Gujarat BJP chief Rajendra
Sinh Rana, party leaders Rajnath Singh and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
