India, China to discuss border dispute on Nov 21
Monday, November 18 2002 21:57 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: India and China will hold the next meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on the boundary dispute in New Delhi on November 21 in their attempt to sort out differences relating to the Western sector of their border.

Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal will lead the Indian delegation to the talks while Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi would head his side at the JWG, which meets annually.

The two sides are also expected to discuss the possible time frame for Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to China.

During the visit of then External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh to China in March, the likelihood of Vajpayee travelling to Beijing by the year-end was talked about.

Official sources said the entire gamut of bilateral relations are expected to come up for review during the parleys.

Both countries have agreed to speed up the process of clarification of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to help eventually move in the direction of finding a solution to the protracted boundary issue.

During Singh's visit, the two sides decided to complete the delineation in the Western sector by this year-end and take up the Eastern sector the next year.
