Chandrababu Naidu rules out talks with naxalites
Tuesday, November 19 2002 20:28 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad: Hardening its stand in the wake of Naxalite attack on a passenger bus, Andhra Pradesh government ruled out resumption of the collapsed peace talks with People's War Group (PWG) and said the naxal outfit must shun violence and join the social mainstream.

"How can we talk to them? Despite our best efforts (to carry forward dialogue process), they are resorting to violence and killing innocent people," a visibly shaken Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu told reporters.

Ruling out any fresh initiative to resume talks as "long as extremists wield their guns", he said though there were "no fake police encounters" in the state, the naxal violence was continuing unabated.

Stating that his government would seek additional assistance from Centre to tackle naxal menace, Naidu said he would take up the matter with Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani.

"Though Centre is periodically convening inter-state meetings on anti-naxalite operations, the exercise is not yielding desired results. There is a need for strengthening this co-ordination," the Chief Minister said.
