Malayalam film wins 2 awards at French film fest

London: Malayalam film 'Mathilukal' (The Walls) by well-known director Adoor Gopalakrishnan has won awards in two major categories at the just-concluded 12th International Film Festival for Young People in Paris.

The film won the award for the "Best Film" and for the "Best Director".

The prize for the best film carries a cash award of 6,500 Euros, while that for the best director, purses 1,500 Euro.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan said on November 20 that he would be leaving for Paris on November 21 to receive the awards.

Mathilukal has already received several national awards and the international film critic award in Venice in 1990.

The festival featured films of special interest to the young people hitherto un- exhibited in France.
