Bangalore: Karnataka government debunked former state director general of police (DGP) C Dinakar's claim that Rs 20 crore were traded for securing the release of leading Kannada film actor Raj Kumar from forest brigand Veerappan saying these kind of "irresponsible" statements undermined key institutions in the Democratic system.

"I think it is relatively easy for people to come up with this kind of a thing. But if you keep chipping away at institutions in this fashion, there will be an overall damage to all important institutions in the system," Karnataka Information Minister B K Chandrashekhar said.

"It will be very difficult to recover from that damage," he added.
