Islamabad: Pakistan termed as "biased and unbalanced" the EU Parliament resolution
which criticised the October 10 general elections in the country, but expressed
satisfaction at the European Union's call to New Delhi and Islamabad to resume
dialogue.
The head of the EU monitors delegation, John Cushnahan, persisted with "deeply
flawed" conclusions about the recent elections, Pakistan Foreign Office said in a
statement.
Cushnahan, heading an 80-member EU poll monitors mission, strongly criticised the
poll process adopted by the Musharraf government to conduct the general elections.
His report described the entire poll process as seriously flawed and partly agreed
with the allegations of the Pakistan's political parties of pre-poll rigging.
"It is most unfortunate that Cushnahan persists with the deeply flawed conclusions
in his report on the EU Election Observation Mission, which monitored the recently
concluded general elections in Pakistan," the Foreign office statement said.
"Cushnahan continues to remain impervious to the restoration of Democracy in
Pakistan," it said.
The EU Parliament's resolution in Brussels on November 21 has been overtaken by
events in Pakistan, as the National Assembly has already met to elect the Speaker,
Deputy Speaker and the leader of the House, it said.
The statement, however, expressed satisfaction over the European Parliament
resolution calling for resumption of talks between India and Pakistan.
