New Delhi: CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) on November 22 alleged that
US-based organisations were funding large number of Sangh Parivar outfits to foment
communal trouble in the country.
"The Maryland-based India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF) and the American Funding
of Hindutva had transferred about 70 lakh USD in the last two years into the accounts
of 75 organisations in the country, of which 60 were linked with the Sangh Parivar,"
CPM MP Hannan Mollah told reporters in New Delhi.
Stating that Sangh Parivar-related outfits included Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, he
claimed the participation of tribals in the recent communal violence in Gujarat
indicated that such outfits were involved in fomenting communal trouble.
Demanding a thorough probe into this episode, he said it was very likely that more
funds could have been despatched to such organisations and "the total amount could
run into
billions of dollars".
Mollah alleged that since US laws prohibited funding of religious outfits, the IDRF
had bypassed them claiming it was only financing organisations involved in social
development work.
