Patna: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) general secretary, Tariq Anwar called for
immediate dismissal of the Gujarat government and arrest of Chief Minister Narendra
Modi, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) in connection with the spate of
communal violence in the state.
Talking to reporters, Anwar said the committee headed by retired judge of Supreme
Court, Justice Krishna Aiyer and the National Human Rights Commission had severely
indicted the Narendra Modi dispensation for its alleged failure to check the
communal violence, that erupted after Godhra incident.
"Narendra Modi should be booked under POTA without any further delay and his
government be dismissed for failure to restore peace and amity in Gujarat," he
said.
Anwar said NCP was trying to firm up electoral alliance with Janata Dal (Secular) of
former Prime Minister, H D Deve Gowda and Samajwadi Janata party headed by former
Prime Minister, Chandra Shekhar, to defeat the communal forces in Gujarat.
He said his party planned to file its candidates in 125 Assembly constituencies in
Gujarat.
He also called for banning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu
Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal.
