Oppn attacks govt over top job offer to Venkataswami
Friday, November 22 2002 14:41 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Opposition members on November 22 protested in the Lok Sabha against what they claimed a top government job being offered to Justice K Venkataswami, probing the Tehelka expose on fictitious Defence deals, even before the completion of the inquiry.

"This is highly prejudicial," said Congress chief whip P R Dasmunsi said during Question Hour demanding an immediate response from treasury benches.

Dasmunsi was joined in his contention by Left party members led by Basudeb Acharia and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh.

The Congress member said Venkataswami has been offered a job in the Customs and Excise Department in the North Block.

To Dasmunsi's demand for a government response, Speaker Manohar Joshi said ministers had heard him and they might choose to react during Zero Hour.
