Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on November 22 ignored former state
director general of police (DGP) C Dinakar's charge in his yet to be released new
book that a ransom of Rs 20 crore was paid to secure the release of Kannada thespian
Rajkumar from forest brigand Veerappan.
Emerging out of a high-level meeting on the Nagappa hostage crisis, Krishna
maintained silence when asked about a series of charges made by Dinakar in his
book, "Veerappan's Prize Catch: Rajkumar", due for release in New Delhi on November
25.
The book alleges that the ransom was paid in four instalments and conveyed through
different persons. The controversial Dinakar was the DGP during the 108-day Rajkumar
kidnap crisis.
The Rajkumar family has already denied allegations of ransom, which had cropped up
often since his release.
The 318-page book claims to give a blow-by-blow account of the Rajkumar kidnap saga,
which had made international headlines.
