New Delhi: Rajya Sabha on November 22 witnessed an uproar on the recent Rajdhani
Express accident at Rafiganj in Bihar with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Laloo
Prasad Yadav saying he doubted the record of the person who conducted the inquiry
into the mishap.
Reacting to this, Railway Minister Nitish Kumar said he was prepared to order any
kind of inquiry, including a judicial probe, if the House so wishes.
Stating the person in question was brought from the Civil Aviation Ministry, Kumar
said options are given to choose the person to conduct the inquiry.
Even as Yadav, supported by RJD, Left and Congress members, said the minister must
fulfill his assurance of a judicial probe, chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said the
minister could consider it.
Yadav, however, said the Chair should give a firm ruling for an inquiry by a
Parliamentary Committee into the accident which could have occurred due to
overspeeding of the train on an old bridge.
To vociferous demands by the Opposition for allowing half-an-hour discussion on the
subject, Shekhawat said the House had already held discussions on the Railway safety
issue for over 30 minutes.
