BDR opens unprovoked firing on BSF in Tripura

Agartala: Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) on November 23 opened unprovoked firing on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Kalikapur in South Tripura district, official sources said.

Trouble started on November 22 when one Jitendra Tripura, a Bangladeshi citizen from Tarakuch area in Bangladesh sneaked into an Indian village at Kalikapur, BSF sources said adding the Bangladeshi citizen was handed over to police.

BSF said, following the incident, one Sanjib Baidya, a villager of Kalikapur was called inside Bangladesh by BDR and detained.

In retaliation, a group of Indian villagers entered Tarakuch area in Bangladesh and kidnapped one person from there, BSF said.

BSF said BDR personnel opened fire at a BSF patrol early on November 23 morning but there was no casualty. BSF did not open fire, they added.

BSF said a flag meeting at the commandant level will be held today at Kalikapur and the Indian side will be represented by Commandant, 114 battalion.

Tension prevails in the area.
