Hyderabad: An alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant, the prime suspect in bomb blast
incident at Sai Baba temple on the city outskirts two days ago, was killed in an
encounter with police in Rangareddy district late on November 22 night, police said
in Hyderabad on November 23.
Mohammad Azam, who had links with Lashkar-e-Toiba, was killed in the encounter that
took place in Parvatipuram area under Uppal police station in the neighbouring
district,
between 1.00 am and 1.30 am, according to district Superintendent of police (SP)
Ramachandra Raju.
Azam confessed his involvement in the bomb blast at the temple and was leading a
police party to Uppal where he had kept some explosives including pipe bomb after the
incident,
the SP said.
When the police party along with Azam reached the spot, the militant while taking out
explosive material hidden in the bushes, took out his revolver and opened fire at
policemen.
However, he missed the target and no one was injured, Raju said adding, the police,
who were standing nearby, retaliated the fire killing him on the spot.
A US-made revolver was recovered from the scene, the SP added.
A woman devotee was killed and 20 others injured when a timebomb exploded at Sai Baba
temple in Dilsukhnagar area on the city outskirts on November 21.
