Temple attack was militants' gift to JK govt: VHP
Monday, November 25 2002 12:31 Hrs (IST)

Ahmedabad: Strongly condemning the terrorist attack on the two temples in Jammu on November 24 evening, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on November 25 said "it is a gift to the Congress-PDP (People's Democratic Alliance) government in Jammu and Kashmir which has been very soft on militants in the region".

Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Praveen Togadia "Yesterday's terrorist attack on both the temples is part of a series of attacks planned by militants prepared and dispatched from across the border," VHP international general secretary Praveen Togadia said.

Coming down heavily on the J&K government, Togadia termed the attack as a "jihadi war" against "dharma".

"They struck terror in Akshardham at Gandhinagar, at a temple in Hyderabad and twice already at Raghunath temple. It is high time we unite as `Hindu nation, not as a Hindu state' and train our youths in commando warfare for giving a befitting reply to `Islamic jihad," Togadia said.

Denying that there was any laxity on part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre that has promised adequate security cover to important temples of the country following the Akshardham temple seige, he said, however, it is impossible to deploy security personnel at all temples.

"India should be like Israel and make it mandatory for youths to have commando training," the VHP leader said, adding the most important step of all is to dismember Pakistan.
