Jammu: Amid beefed up security, the historic Raghunath temple was reopened on
November 27 for devotees, three days after militants stormed it killing 12 people
and injuring 54.
Before the temple was reopened, priests performed a ceremony to purify the shrine,
which was refurbished to erase the bloodstains and bullet marks.
Over 1,500 devotees participated in the two-hour long "shudhi karan yagnya"
(purification ceremony) from 10:00 hours (IST), the temple's chief priest Vishal
Shastri said. Divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner and Jammu inspector
general of police were also present.
Several hundred volunteers assisted the management in cleaning of the temple
complex, temple supervisor Darshan Kumar said.
Security has been beefed up in and around the temple and as a precautionary measure,
the main gate from Raghunath Bazar side will remain closed for a few days and access
to the temple premises will be from the Hari market side.
