Bangalore: Karnataka High Court on November 28 granted conditional bail to Tamil
activist Kolathur Mani, clearing decks for him to undertake the mediatory mission to
forest bandit Veerappan to negotiate the release of abducted Janata Dal - United (JD-
U) leader H Nagappa.
Justice H N Narayana enlarged Mani on bail on furnishing a bond for Rs one lakh and
two sureties for the like sum, when the bail applications concerning three cases
came up for hearing.
The Judge directed Mani to appear before the Kollegal rural police once in 10 days.
The Judge also directed that Mani should ensure his presence before court as and
when summons were issued, failing which the bail would be cancelled.
With this, Mani secured bail in cases booked against him in Kollegal, Chamarajanagar
and Ramapura police stations under Arms and Explovies Act and aiding the bandit.
Public prosecutors Marigowda and Thimmarayappa did not oppose the bail and Mani's
counsel T Prakash pleaded with the court for bail to his client.
