Ahmedabad: Terming the Bharatiya Janata Party's BJP's charges of "soft stance" on terrorism as a "blatant lie", the Congress on November 30 counter-alleged that "it was during the BJP regime at the Centre and the state that terrorism got an impetus".

Addressing reporters, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Kamal Nath said, "Nothing can be a bigger lie than Congress going soft on terrorism, as BJP alleges. It is only Congress that can combat terrorism effectively."

Kamal Nath alleged, "Terrorism got a real boost when Jaswant Singh flew terrorists to Kandahar during the hijacking incident and then the same terrorists conspired the attack on Parliament. All this happened despite intelligence agencies warning the government of such an attack."

The Congress leader said, "Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi laid down their lives fighting terrorism and it was Beant Singh of the Congress in Punjab, who also lost his life and ended terrorism in the state.

"It is a big misfortune for BJP, who called themselves custodians of Hindus, that all the terrorists attack including Akshardham, Parliament, Red Fort, Amarnath pilgrims....all occurred during the BJP rule," he remarked.

Accusing BJP of indulging in “politics of hatred", Kamal Nath said, "The issue of terrorism is being raised only to reap rich electoral harvests by misleading people."
