New Delhi: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said the political wind in Gujarat is blowing in favour of Bharaitya Janata party (BJP) but asked party men not to be complacent.

"The atmosphere in Gujarat is very much in favour of our party but there should be no room for complacency. The party men should step up the election campaign and ensure votes for the party from all sections of society," Advani told the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting.

Chairing the meeting in the absence of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee who is busy with the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Deputy Prime Minister said, "Efforts by the Opposition to wean away voters from BJP would not be successful but this should not make us complacent."

Party spokesman V K Malhotra said Advani asked members to be present in both Houses of Parliament and actively participate in discussions and ensure that the business is transacted smoothly.

Advani said members could give their suggestions on the Kelkar Committee on Tax Reforms to the party's committee headed by BJP general secretary Rajnath Singh.

The members suggested that the government should give tax relief to poor and middle classes, according to Malhotra.

Members sought waiver of interest on loans taken by farmers for another year in view of drought, Malhotra said.
