Bangalore: Physically challenged shuttlers from eight countries are assembling later
this week to vie for honours in the badminton World Cup for the disabled, starting
from December 6.
There would be 83 competitors for the three-day event from Israel, the Netherlands,
Switzerland, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Russia and Ghana besides India, according to
the hosts, the Commonwealth Disabled Sports Association of India (CDSAI).
CDSAI officials told reporters on Tuesday competitions would be held in categories
of wheel chair-I (minor disability), wheel chair-II (severe disability), standing
upper (hand category), standing lower (leg category) and sitting category.
They said such an international event is being held in the country for the first
time.
CDSAI, which was allotted the event by the International Badminton Association for
the Disabled (IBAD), had been formed by various national and international disabled
sports personalities under the guidance of former international coach and NIS coach
D David Premnath, it was stated.
