TV journalist dies in mishap, two others injured

Kannur: A journalist of Malayalam television channel 'Asianet', Surendran Nileshwaram was killed and two others were seriously injured in a road mishap early on December 3 near Nileshwaram in Kasaragod district, police said.

The mishap occurred when the car in which Surendran (47), along with television cameraman Selvaraj Kayyoor of the same channel and a reporter of a newspaper Kerala Kaumudhi was travelling, collided with a truck near a bridge, police said.

The victims were returning home after covering an assignment in Karnataka's Belthangadi area.

Surendran, who covers both Kasaragod and Kannur districts for the television channel, had produced exclusive reports on various issues in north Malabar region and was the son of freedom fighter late Churikkdan Krishnan Nair.

Surendran's body, which was first removed to the Kasaragod district hospital in Kanhangad, was later brought to the nearby Pariyara Medical college hospital for post-mortem.
