Srinagar: Nearly 28-hour-long siege of a mosque in Anantnag district of South
Kashmir ended on December 3 evening when a Lashker-e-Toiba militant, holed up in the
shrine, surrendered before the troops, official sources said.
The ultra, identified as Bashir Ahmad Wani of Homshalibug village, gave himself up
after the troops waited patiently outside the mosque at Reshigund village, about 90
km from Srinagar.
The peaceful end to the crisis involving the place of worship was hailed by the
people of the village who played a key role in the surrender of the militant, they
said.
