New Delhi: Bhutan government has assured that it would not allow insurgent groups to
use its territory for activities prejudicial to India's interests, Minister of State
for Home I D Swami told the Rajya Sabha on December 4.
The Minister, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, said the government was aware
of the existence of camps of Indian insurgent groups including National Democratic
Front of Bodoland in Bhutan which were being used by them for safe havens,
sanctuary, training purposes and launching of operations against Indian civilians
and security forces.
The Assam government has also drawn the attention of the Central government about
their activities, he said.
The matter regarding removal of camps of Indian insurgent groups from Bhutan
territory has been taken up from time to time with the Bhutan government, he said,
adding the issue was also discussed in detail during the visits of External Affairs
Minister Yashwant Sinha in August 2002 and Foreign Secretary in October to Bhutan.
