Srinagar: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and a militant were killed in an encounter in the border district of Kupwara in North Kashmir on December 4, official sources said.

A group of militants opened fire on CRPF personnel deployed on road opening duty at Zarger mohalla in Handwara area, 70 kms from Srinagar. The jawans retaliated by killing an unidentified militant in the ensuing encounter. A CRPF jawan was also killed in the gunfight, the sources said.

Reinforcements were rushed to the scene soon after the militant attack and a cordon was laid around the village, the sources said, adding the operation was continuing and further details were awaited.

An unidentified body was recovered by police from Imam-Sahib locality in Shopian area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir on December 4.
